Over the past several months, a wave of AI browsers has been released: Dia, Comet, Fellou, and Sigma AI, among others. However, it’s the ChatGPT Atlas browser that has the potential to be a real game changer.
The browser needs better cybersecurity controls
Not long ago, the main interface for work was desktop applications like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Today, employees are increasingly using AI and AI-enabled tools directly in the browser.
The amount of shadow AI use is staggering. An MIT report found that 90% of workers are quietly succeeding with personal AI tools, often without organizational approval or oversight.
Adding further complexity, traditional SaaS platforms are rapidly embedding AI features to stay competitive, while new SaaS tools are AI-native from day one.
The idea of managing AI as a single category is clearly not outdated.
Instead, organizations need a model that reflects how AI is integrated across every tool and workflow.
We’re still trying to govern this new AI landscape with tools designed for the pre-AI era. What’s needed now is a way to manage AI use in the browser based on usage, intent, and data sensitivity…rather than just application access.
Furthermore, that protection can’t stop at a single browser like Edge. It must extend across all browsers, including the rapidly emerging AI browsers.
How Harmonic Security protects your AI browsers
The strength of Harmonic Security’s browser extension is that it’s browser-agnostic. It provides unified visibility and control across all Chromium-based browsers as well as Safari.
Since most AI browsers (including ChatGPT Atlas) are Chromium-based, Harmonic works seamlessly across them all.
Deployment is handled via MDMs such as Intune or Jamf, ensuring silent, policy-enforced installation. This means that even when employees download new browsers, your organization remains protected by default.
Each browser has its own nuances, such as ChatGPT Atlas’s side panel integration. However, Harmonic’s product and engineering teams constantly analyze these differences and deliver updates to maintain consistent protection.
But what about AI use outside of the browser?
AI use doesn’t stop at the browser, of course. One of the fastest-growing areas of adoption is agentic workflows. Tools like Cursor and Claude Code enable AI agents to reason, plan, and act autonomously across environments.
To address this, we recently announced our MCP Gateway, a developer-friendly, locally installed gateway that gives security teams complete visibility and control over their organization’s agentic AI ecosystem.
The solution transparently intercepts all MCP (Model Context Protocol) traffic, enabling teams to:
- Discover which clients and servers are in use
- Enforce granular policies to block risky actions
- Apply Harmonic’s industry-leading sensitive data models to prevent exfiltration of critical intellectual property and other sensitive information
The Future of Secure AI Adoption
The future of work is AI-first, and organizations need a unified control plane to enable that future safely. Harmonic Security is building that control plane. We empower security leaders to enable innovation while maintaining visibility, compliance, and data protection across the AI ecosystem.
